In Tandem is proud to announce our new collaboration with Literal (LiteralApp.com), the all-in-one digital reading platform for K12 classrooms.
Literal is revolutionizing digital reading in over 1,000 middle schools and high schools in K12 education. Awarded a perfect score for student engagement by James Denby of Common Sense Media, Literal is rooted in the core principles of the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework developed by CAST (Center for Applied Special Technology). Literal provides educators with a curated digital content library of thousands of fiction and literary non-fiction titles including books, plays, poems, comics, manga, and graphic novels from Comics Plus. Accompanying this growing content library are teaching and learning tools like translation, an AI-powered assignment and formative assessment builder, an instant autograder to grade student responses, and a book recommendation engine to help drive content discovery and literacy growth through reading practice.
Through this collaboration, Literal will engage youth in co-designing new product features and content for future releases. The ultimate goal is to increase the percentage of young people who see themselves as readers and who say they authentically “enjoy” reading after spending time on Literal. Engagements will consist of In Tandem Youth Partners sharing their ideas, preferences, and interests with respect to digital design as well as direct research to evaluate whether time spent on Literal improves their overall reading affinity, focus, and enjoyment. In Tandem’s Youth Pàrtners will support the process of validating, prototyping, and testing features while ensuring their voices are captured as one of the main users behind product development.
By engaging In Tandem Youth Partners, Literal will gain direct access to teens who want to share authentic feedback and actively participate throughout every stage of the product design process. Connecting with a diverse sample of Youth Partners will allow Literal to include and act on feedback from youth with varied lived experiences, perspectives, and preferences, capturing the voice of youth who may not always be represented in the design process. This approach will help align future content and features that resonate with young people and ensure improvements increase engagement and adoption of the platform.
